 :: Facts about Playa del Carmen, Mexico
Playa, as the locals call it, is a beach-side city located on the coast of the Caribbean Sea. You generally fly into Cancun airport then transfer to Playa del Carmen, which is an hour's drive.
There are convenient busses every hour directly into the center of Playa del Carmen.
5th Avenue [Quinto Avenida] is the main street that runs parallel to the Caribbean ocean. It's around 500 meters from the water. In between the water and 5th are hotels, Bed & Breakfasts, Inns, Rentals, Timeshares, and restaurants. Many restaurants and bars and beach bar. This is truly a paradise for backpackers up to luxury travelers. Playa del Carmen has been growing rapidly, and has truly everything to offer. Playa is also safe in the evening and has a superb nightlife.
Many visitors, mostly female, stay here for several months to learn Spanish at one of the many language schools.
:: Dive reefs near Playa del Carmen
Pro Dive Mexico also offers daily dive excursions to explore the local reefs North and South of Playa del Carmen. We have dive shops North and South of this great town.
Most reefs we visit near Playa del Carmen are 2-tank dives and we leave from our pier in Puerto Aventuras or Maroma beach.
These are our special dive excursions and local tank packages can be upgraded to wreck dives, turtle dives, bull shark divs and other nice reefs.
Our boats all leave from a comfortable pier in Puerto Aventuras and several times per week we arrange these special tours as it only takes 30 minutes to reach the many reefs near Playa del Carmen.
:: Tortugas Reef (2 tanks excursion, half day, 26m/85ft maximum depth)
It takes just a quick 30 minutes boat ride to reach the Tortugas Reef between Playa Del Carmen and Puerto Aventuras. This is one of the most exciting deep dive sites in our area. Tortuga boasts an astounding number of hawksbill turtles and big fish.
From barracuda to jacks of many species, cubera snappers, stingrays, green and spotted morays... Even the Splendid Toadfish has been spotted there.
:: Mama Viña wreck dive (2 tanks,half day,28m/92ft)
Close to above dive site near Playa del Carmen we also have a famous wreck site. It's also a deep dive (max 30m) and we will do another more shallower dive after this. Mama Viña, an old shrimp boat, was sunk intentionally in 1995 to create an artificial reef and a focus for scuba diving.
It lies almost intact, with it’s bow facing the predominant south-north current head on.
:: Dive the Bulls ( 15 Nov. - End Feb.) (2 tanks, half day, max 25m/82ft )
"DIVE THE BULLS" is an exciting excursions for experienced divers near Playa del Carmen. Every year during the winter months when the water temperature is a bit lower, they are in this area. They are solitary hunters and most of the time we see between 2 and 10 bull sharks in this area. Diving the bulls must be done in a controled way and with experienced Instructors from our company it's pretty save.

:: Cozumel scuba day trips right from the Ferry Pier 
Pro Dive Mexico has own operations, boats, staff and permits for the Cozumel National Marine Park. We provide daily Cozumel dive excursion.
So if you are staying in Playa del Carmen, PlayaCar or very close by, our staff can meet you right at the FERRY pier.
Our staff will be there, wearing the red uniform with yello fish logo. We will take the ferry from 09:00 o'clock, and ones on the other side, you will board one of our dive boats, leaving for the famous Cozumel Marine Park.
Or we can pick you up form your resort....
You will do a 2 tank dive, have some lunch and drinks in between, and will be back in Playa del Carmen around 17:00 hours.
But if you like to go to Cozumel by yourself, please let us know as we will inform our staff at Allegro Cozumel of your arrival.
